On New Year’s Day the Facebook and Twitter accounts and blog for Microsoft's Skype were hacked by the SEA (Syrian Electronic Army). This isn't entirely surprising as the FBI had issued a warning on Christmas eve to media organizations about a new wave of phishing attacks associated with the infamous SEA.
The account under which the blog was posted, Shana Pearlman, also displays SEA lines: "Hacked by Syrian Electronic Army.. Stop Spying!" and "Don't use Microsoft emails (hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments." [Note: Just to be clear, we have no reason to believe Microsoft is actually doing this.]
Skype has more than 3 million followers on Twitter, which indicates that, had the attackers wanted to send out malicious links or other dangerous content, this could have been a whole lot worse.
Note : Skype Twitter account did not use 2-Factor authentication
